Wabi Coffee Recipes: Dirty Jasmine

What is Dirty Jasmine?

A "Dirty Jasmine" is typically a caffeinated fusion drink that combines the floral notes of jasmine tea with a "dirty" element—most commonly a shot of espresso. It is often served as a latte, blending tea concentrate, milk or half-and-half, and coffee. While there is a classic gin cocktail called "The Jasmine" (made with gin, lemon juice, Campari, and Cointreau), it does not traditionally contain espresso. Therefore, a "Dirty Jasmine" is almost exclusively a coffee-shop style beverage rather than a standard cocktail.

How to make a Dirty Jasmine?

To make an iced Dirty Jasmine, start by steeping a concentrated half-cup of high-quality jasmine green tea in hot water (ideally around 80°C) for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring in a touch of simple syrup or honey while it is still warm if you prefer a sweeter drink. Next, fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the strained jasmine tea concentrate, followed by 4 to 6 ounces of your preferred milk, with oat or whole milk providing a great creamy balance to the floral notes. Finally, pull a fresh single or double shot of espresso and slowly pour it over the top to create a beautiful marbled layer, giving the drink its signature "dirty" look before stirring gently to combine the roasted coffee and aromatic tea flavors.
