Dirty Coffee is a visually striking coffee drink that originated in Asia, especially popular in Korea and Japan. It features hot espresso poured over cold milk, creating a “dirty” layered look where the dark espresso slowly mixes into the pale milk. The contrast in temperature and color gives the drink its signature appearance, while the taste is smooth and slightly sweet from the cold milk, balanced by the bold espresso on top.
To make a Dirty Coffee, fill a glass with cold milk (sometimes lightly sweetened) and add ice if desired. Brew a hot shot of espresso, then gently pour it over the milk using a spoon or directly onto the surface so it stays layered. Serve immediately to enjoy the visual effect and the contrast between the cold milk and the hot espresso.

200 ml of cold milk (full cream recommended)
1 shot of hot espresso (30–40 ml)
Ice cubes (optional)
Optional: 1 tsp of sugar or vanilla syrup
Pour cold milk into a clear glass. Add sugar or syrup if needed.
(Add ice only if you prefer it extra cold.)
Brew a fresh shot of espresso — it must be hot.
Pour the espresso over the milk slowly, ideally over the back of a spoon, to create clean layers.
Do not stir. Enjoy the visual contrast before sipping.
Use very cold milk and very hot espresso for the best layering.
Whole milk gives the nicest color contrast.
Best served in a clear glass for aesthetic appeal.
