The drink is defined by its striking visual contrast, typically featuring a bright yellow base of orange juice topped with a rich, dark crown of espresso to mimic the striped pattern of a bumblebee. Philosophically, it balances the bright, zesty acidity of citrus with the deep, chocolatey, or nutty undertones of a well-pulled espresso, offering a lighter alternative to traditional milk-based coffee during the warmer months.
To prepare an Orange Bumble, start by filling a tall glass with large ice cubes to ensure the drink stays chilled without diluting too quickly. Pour the cold, fresh-pressed orange juice over the ice; for a sweeter profile, you can stir in the honey or agave syrup at this stage. Finally, carefully pull a double shot of espresso and pour it slowly over the back of a spoon onto the juice to maintain the distinct "sunset" layers. While it looks beautifully separated, it is meant to be stirred gently before drinking to fully integrate the sharp citrus with the bold coffee flavors.

100ml of fresh-pressed orange juice (cold)
Double shot of espresso (approx. 36g – 40g)
10ml of honey or agave syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
1 cup of large ice cubes
Garnish: Fresh mint sprig or a thin orange wheel
Fill a chilled glass to the brim with ice cubes.
Pour the cold orange juice into the glass. If you're using syrup or honey, stir it directly into the juice now so it dissolves evenly.
Slowly pour the double shot of espresso over the back of a bar spoon held just above the surface of the juice. This breaks the fall of the coffee and keeps the layers distinct.
Garnish with mint or an orange slice.
