The Osmanthus & Fermented Rice Oat Latte is a sophisticated fusion drink that bridges traditional Eastern flavors with modern specialty coffee culture. It centers on the aromatic pairing of sweet fermented rice (Jiu Niang)—a traditional staple made from glutinous rice and distillery yeast—and the delicate, apricot-like scent of dried osmanthus flowers. When combined with the creamy, cereal-like profile of oat milk and a nutty espresso, the result is a "low-guilt" beverage that offers a complex balance of floral, fermented, and toasted notes, embodying a refined "Modern Eastern" aesthetic.
To craft this latte at home, begin by layering one tablespoon of sweet fermented rice at the bottom of a glass and filling it with ice. Pour in the oat milk and stir gently to release the rice's fermented aroma into the milk base. Slowly add a double shot of espresso over the top to create a beautiful marbled gradient, then garnish with a sprinkle of dried osmanthus flowers or a touch of osmanthus syrup. The natural sweetness of the rice eliminates the need for added sugar, making it a clean yet indulgent choice for any home barista.
